Murphy *ADOPTED*

My name is Murphy and I am
looking for a new home. My current owner wrote the following about me:
He was born 4-15-2005. We adopted him in
February 2007 after his former owners couldn't keep him because of their
schedules. He didn't spend much time with other dogs before then, and he had
been spending most of his time locked in his crate. He's lived with me, my
husband, my daughter, and our Rhodesian Ridgeback/yellow lab mix since then. He
loves to run and play with his people and other dogs (and any other people who
want to play). He loves to play with plush, squeaky dog toys, rope toys
(especially tug-o-war with rope bones and rope balls), any other balls (except
that he'll chew up Nerf balls), and rawhide chews. He likes to play fetch, but
sometimes he gets excited and forgets to return the ball to you. He's a hound,
so he has a big voice, and he's a great early warning system to notify you if
company shows up. (No one will break into your house while he's around.)
Although he can play hard and rough, he spends most of his day napping. He
especially loves to lie in the sun (such as in front of a large window or out in
the yard while you're with him), and he often naps in his crate (we leave it
open for him to go into and out of as he pleases throughout the day). He plays
well with other dogs, but does better with big dogs than small dogs. He's about
55 to 60 pounds, and has extra large feet (in case you want to get him snow
shoes). He doesn't realize how big he is, so he often wants to snuggle on our
laps, and he would sleep in my bed every night if I let him. Since he doesn't
realize how big he is, he has a tendency to jump and sometimes overpower very
small people (e.g., toddlers), so he'd do better in a home without very small
children. He'll spend long periods of time lying in the sun or on the couch or
bed next to me, and he will let you know when he thinks you should scratch his
head or pet him (which he likes to have done a LOT). He also likes to be
brushed, and he'll jump in the way if he sees you brushing another dog. He's
very healthy and has never had health problems, but he can't digest people food
very well. He likes to play outside, but he needs to be an inside dog.
We have vet records and the AKC papers that his original owners had. Both of
his parents were AKC registered, although he was not registered because he's a
family pet, not a show dog or breeding dog. He comes from the family of Bassets
that were the Hushpuppy Shoes models. He's beautiful and sweet, and I don't
want to let him go, but I have to move to a small apartment in Washington, D.C.
for work, and I can't take him to an apartment. We have his crate, blanket,
bed, brush, ear cleaner, and bowls to go with him, and he's getting all of his
updated shots on 7-8-2009. Overall, he's a wonderful, but really very typical,
Basset Hound who needs a lot of love and a reasonable amount of attention and
exercise.
