Please meet Mabel. Mabel is a sweet Basset that was found in a rural area of Oklahoma.  As you can see in the pictures (scroll down) Mabel has some serious health problems that need to be addressed.  Mabel has extremely large mammary tumors that must be removed.  She has been evaluated to see if the cancer has spread to her lungs. Thankfully it has not. Plus she is heartworm negative and has a great disposition.  If Mabel has immediate surgery to remove the mammary tumors she should have many more good years to share with a new companion.  During the 5 hour long surgery, scheduled for April 15th, Mabel will also have her teeth cleaned and be spayed.  Once Mabel has recuperated she will be transported to the Bassets RUS rescue ranch until she can be evaluated for placement in a permanent, loving home.

Bassets RUS is asking for donations to help defray the cost of Mabel's surgery and other medical expenses.  A donation can be made directly to the vet clinic by sending a check to the address below (sorry they can't take credit cards). Mabel's surgery was more and expensive and longer than anticipated.  We still need your financial support to help defray her medical costs.  Even though Mabel had to have over 100 stitches she is doing great. She has helped educate a girl scout troupe about the importance of spaying and neutering our pets. She is still recovering in her foster home. Once she has recovered she will begin a new life at the BassetsRUS ranch.
