Roscoe *Resident Hound*

At the Bridge 8/22/07

Roscoe spent the first 11 years of his life in an Arkansas puppy mill.  Roscoe and 3 female Bassets were given up to Basset Hound rescue. Ozark Mountain Basset Rescue is fostering and finding homes for the 3 females which were younger and more adoptable than Roscoe.  Roscoe had nowhere to go so they asked Bassets Rus if we could make room and of course we did.  We have a special place in our hearts for these puppy mill survivors.  So we shall get started with the rehabilitation of Roscoe.  At first he did not want to make eye contact but once I got him home tonite and settled in he was all about wagging his tail.  He needs to gain some weight and may not see too well.  He has scars on the top of his head and the top of one ear (see picture below).  His ears are pretty ripped up at the ends. After only a few hours in our loving home he has become very responsive to us.  Please check back for updates on Roscoe's progress.

After Roscoe passed away Kim wrote:

I lost Roscoe on wednesday nite. When I got home he was lying in the bathroom - very still. When I sat down with him - he started having a seizure. Not knowing whether to leave him there while I tried to call the vet or staying with him. I stayed with him and kept stroking him and saying his name and that he was safe. He was gone with in minutes. I will have his ashes back next week and when I die all the basset ashes and mine are to be scattered to the wind.
